5 Easy Things You Can Do Today to Reduce Your Anxiety

Anxiety can make you feel as if you are facing an enormous catastrophe that is about to destroy your life. It can be overwhelming and scary while you struggle to overcome it. Although therapy and drugs may help you control anxiety, there are also easy and small things you can do today to reduce anxiety.

1. Start an Anxiety Journal

You do not need a fancy notebook or special pens to start an anxiety journal. A simple notebook can help you find the triggers to your anxiety and stress. The University of Rochester Medical Center reveals that journaling can improve your mental health and help you cope.

2. Give Your Anxiety a Name

Whether you choose to name your anxiety after a person or use a more generic term, this easy step can help you take back control. One of the common symptoms of anxiety is feeling like you are losing control and have no influence over your life. If you name your anxiety Purple Monster or Green Fog, you can separate it from yourself and view it as something you can conquer.

3. Share Your Worries with Someone You Trust

If you have a friend or family member who understands your anxiety, then you can share your worries and work on eliminating them. Sometimes it helps to get another person’s perspective about your issues. They can help you realize that the problems are not as serious as you think.

4. Sing Your Favorite Song Slowly

The quality of your voice or remembering the exact lyrics does not matter because the point of this exercise is to help you focus and forget your anxiety. Singing can help you relieve stress and reduce anxiety. By singing slowly, you will also pay more attention to the words.

5. Avoid Boredom

Whether you stay busy by reading books during your free time or binge on your favorite TV shows, the key is to avoid boredom. If you are bored, then you are more likely to start thinking and worrying, so your anxiety will increase.

Do you have something that really works for you to help you destress and reduce anxiety?   Share in the comments because I’d love to know.
