How Yoga Can Improve Concentration

I certainly need to begin something to help improve concentration!   I can walk into the room and forget what I came in there for.  There are so many times I plain forget what I was going to say in mid-sentence, eek.

Practicing yoga is one of the best ways to improve not just your body, but your mind, memory, concentration and focus.

It’s great news that a range of studies have all come to the conclusion that yoga can improve brain function, concentration, and focus.  One study showed that after a yoga session, compared with aerobics or no exercise at all, the participants were able to process information quickly, more accurately, learn better, and retain the information they had acquired.

Yoga reduces ‘mind chatter’ that can distract us from getting our work done.  Yoga helps to turn off our ‘inner critic’ so we can just do the best we can without trying to achieve any outcome.  Think in the moment.

We need to find time to get away from our cell phones, email, computers and iPods. This peacefulness can give our mind space to expand rather than be bombarded continually by external stimuli.

If you’re worried about your memory or how hard it seems to focus on even the simplest tasks, try yoga and see what a difference it can make to your concentration.
